Hi everyone,
Ok well Emma wrote her idea earlier, here's whats on my mind.
A person throws cards into a hat to see his life. Start with him throwing a few cards and getting same old average numbers. Show a version of his journey to work and give idea of a dull boring life. Second time we go back to his he throws a joker. Spice up his journey a bit more this time. End however with his death. Third card he throws, Queen of hearts, Love. You get the idea i hope. End finally with a few short seconds of him deciding not to throw card for the day because "He makes his own destiny"
This idea takes strong influence from "Groundhog Day" and "Sliding door" in it's use of repitition of a day. The three versions will be of same day and follow a repeat of certain key shots featuring different actions but same framing.
If there is any doubt to how it will fit to five minutes here is my model for time scale
45 second intro. Inc titles
1 minute first play through of day
20 second interim to next card
1 minute second play through of day
20 sec interim to next card
1 minutes third play through of day
15 second outro
10 second titles
The piece will feature narration and the interims mentioned above will be still single shots. In a dark room where we will experiment with lighting for creepy unworldly effect. During repitition of day we'll feature obvious digetic sounds with strong none digetic sound to create mood.
It is undecided yet but am thinking maybe no dialogue during days bar naration from inbetween scenes.
That's my idea, hope you like it.

D1 Journey Project Begins!!!
Hi Guys!!!!
Right we've finally got the blog sorted out and up live...So far this is the first time that we've met up as a group in order to get this blog sorted out but also to begin discussing idea's and make general comments on the assignment. We've concluded that meeting up on a Wednesday with our timetables is probably best so there will probably be regular updates appearing then :)
So far we've got a couple of idea's within the group with a basic outline for camera work/ editing/ sound etc. However this has been hindered with our looming sound projects :(
Group Roles-
Project Manager- Liam Timms
Camera Operator- Emma Price
Sound Recordist- Chelsea Batchelor
Picture Editor- Ben Melbourne
Sound Editor/ Designer- Dan Seiff
Emma-
I began my research physically looking at different types of transportation and one of the types which drew my eye was the idea of open top buses. My original thought was that these are found in Scarbrough and originally i imagined the route that they ran around the bay. I concluded this would provide very interesting shots if the camera could be set up on the tripod looking down at the streets of Scarbrough. From there thinking about the location i recalled that there were a ferris wheel and also began imagining the camera angles which could be found from it. I think with being the camera operator that this was my initial concern as opposed to any other features.
From this i thought about the cliff top views, the trams sliding down the cliff sides and the more scenic view to walk down to the front. I then though more about my idea and the sense of journey and thought how the camera could move from the big built up man-made town, moving down to the natural sea front and back to nature. From this i though about the editing and how for the scenes in town the editing could be very sharp, choppy and fast paced. Compared to slowing down the smooth, flowing dissolves and crossfades when nature is the topic. I imagined the sound quieting down, again following a similar pace. I thought that there would be plenty of sound relating to technology within the town centre, arcades and on the roads whereas on the beach there would be sounds of the sea, sand underfoot, seagulls and waves breaking.
I feel that in relation to the idea of journey not only would this show a physical journey from the town centre down onto the sea front. Yet also there is the idea of going back to nature, maybe almost back in time, which i think gives a more spiritual sense of the idea of 'Journey'. Currently the only downsides that i can think of is the distance from here to Scarbrough. Also there is the issue from this that if there are any restrictions on where we can film, if we have any issues with the equipment and also having to return to the location if things don't quite go to plan. Otherwise though i think it is quite a good idea but i'm open to other people's views on this.
